I'm not saying they practice it themselves. I'm all for fandom incest if it's written realistically with real consequences for the actions. When people just openly think of it as special, though, just because of the actors involved . . . yeah, it's disturbing. Fandom or not.

No, the point is this:

People who would never normally ship siblings (and likely don't do it in any other fandom at all) see something between Sam and Dean, some kind of bond that's so unique, so special, that they find themselves shipping them, regardless of the fact that it's incest. It took a lot for some of them to get past the nasty incest factor, and to realize that some people simply ship brothers because they're hot, and will immediately ship them with the next available attractive co-star...it takes a lot away from it.

Do you get it?

(For the record, I don't ship Dean and Castiel, but only because of Dogma. Angels don't have sexual organs in my Supernatural canon, so...how are Dean and Castiel gonna get it on? Lol. BUT - if he DID have a dick, and Dean and Sam no longer got along, or something drastic happened to make me no longer ship Sam/Dean, I'd prefer shipping Sam/Castiel, because they have far more in common.)

IMO, familial love is MUCH more special and pure than romantic love, and people are ruining that familial love by throwing sex into it and making it completely FUBAR.

Ok, that's just your opinion. I don't shit on anyone else for their pairings, and I'll thank you to not shit on mine.

The reason so many people ship them (or, the reason I ship them, since apparently with the advent of Castiel, it's obvious that a lot of the fandom simply ships them because they're hot) has everything to do with the way they were raised, and the psychology behind their way of life. Incest does happen in the real world, in extreme situations such as how the Winchester boys were raised. They were alone with their father, who was often away, leaving them to go through puberty on their own. I'm not going to spend hours and hours trying to make you see it the way I see it, but if you are interested and have the time, try a little research on the subject. See what tends to cause incestuous relationships to begin, and you'll see case studies that could have been written around the characters of Sam and Dean.

Just so you know, though, I don't think the characters from the show have some hidden sexual history the writers just don't show us. I only ship them in fan-fic, not in actual canon. It's just my own personal views.

Um, I know people in real life, not fiction, who have had incest happen in their lives and let me tell you, it has serious emotional and mental consequences that messes up people for life. There is nothing "pure" and "beautiful" about it, thank you VERY much.

So, please, don't shit on the real world people who have to live with this sort of traumatizing experience and "stylize" it all for your benefit.

Really? Really? Look, people ship Dean/Castiel for more reasons than "OMGHOT" - maybe it's that that attracts people. It's not a betrayal or invalidation of Sam/Dean. It's just different.

I said "a lot of fandom", because that's what I have seen on my friend's list and in a lot of communities (and if you haven't seen that, then OH, MY GOSH! I GUESS THAT MEANS WE'VE GOT DIFFERENT FRIENDS AND COMMS ON OUR LISTS! IMAGINE THAT!). I've seen beautifully written Dean/Castiel fics that have nothing to do with sex or physical attraction. I'm not ignorant and closed-minded like some people in fandom, and if it's written well, I'm going to read it, regardless of pairing, thank you.

I wish that you people would actually read things properly before getting all "Really? Really?" about it. It would save a lot of time.
