So really they just want praise.

They want egoboo and thats not a bad thing

Not by itself but they should at least be upfront about it. "Comment on fic--but ONLY if you're going to say ONLY nice things or I'll never write again!!!"

Some do say that and then get flak for only wanting praise. Unless you're open to even the harshest criticism you can't really win as an author.

I say this as part of the problem. I always roll my eyes when I come across author notes like that (but I just move on quietly do the next fic).
