While I think the new guys are sweet and adorable, I don't think any of them are as good at their specialties as the original team, except maybe Bobby.

Bobby makes exceptional use of space but I would argue that every house he does has a very similar colour scheme and aesthetic.

They all still look good though!

nayrt but yeah. Good ideas, but the overall look is a little samey. I'd love to see more variety in color choices especially. I'm sure most people are just happy to have new furniture, etc. but come on, does everyone really go for the blue/gray palette? I know it's hugely popular now, but...variety is the spice of life, guys.

I think Karamo is pretty amazing

(Anonymous) 2020-06-28 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
he comes off as very sweet and well-meaning in the show, but i also don't think he really takes an individuals style or personal aesthetic into account and tends to dress them how he 'thinks' they should dress rather than what they'd like themselves.

but that's an issue i have with all makeover type shows/stylists, they're much more general rather than personal. and i can admit that personally i'd get super annoyed with someone trying to make me wear something they want rather than what i like.

Tan tends to dress people like himself, which is...well, very nice and he looks great, but I'm not sure he really takes their needs and personal style into consideration very much? And then sometimes it's like he's phoning it in, such as the episode with the fire chief.

I also cringe-LOLed at the idea of firemen giving themselves peach facial masks as a skincare routine. Yeah, I'm sure they totally adopted that suggestion after the show.

Tan does what every stylist does - he dresses them in fashion he understands or is similar to his own.

Since I have zero actual knowledge about many styles, or what's current, 'trendy', etc..... All I can say is that the people end up wearing some very nice looking things, with more color and shape than they usually started with, and i really like how he finds things that make the people feel good about themselves, sexy, etc. (They all seem to react well to his choices and have good feelings, so....)

Tan's so fucking adorable I am probably biased, but hey - the 'clients' seem happy.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-28 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well. They're getting new clothes that fit, for free, given to them by an adorable, sweet man who just wants to help them. You'd have to be a monster not try and appear happy with a camera crew watching you.

I suppose. I dunno. They all seem happy in a non-fakey way. I used to watch 'What Not To Wear' and you could tell when the person wasn't happy.

Tan France is gorgeous and lovely though whereas Trinny and Susannah were pretty patronising and horrible.

I was meaning the Stacey London WNTW, the US version, I guess, as those names are totally unfamiliar to me.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-28 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mean to imply that they're outright faking, just that under those circumstances, most decent people would probably be happy even if they didn't love the clothes themselves. "What Not to Wear" probably isn't a great comparison because those women were just awful human beings who physically manhandled their guests to point out what they felt were body flaws that must be hidden.

Hrmmmmm....I'm talking about the Stacey London eps? I remember watching and liking very much that whenever people said 'oh, but i can't wear that, my (body part) is too fat/weird/big/whatever', she would tell them no, it wasn't, they were beautiful and if they didn't like (body part), here were some clothing and tailoring tricks that would hide that.

I wouldn't take any fashion advice from him! I mean look at that jacket!

I actually don't mostly think that's him, I think its who they get to sponsor their clothes, where they think their subject can actually shop and know what to do and how bad their fashion is to begin with.

That said he was much better this last season, although for one person he just took them to the hat shop.
