To answer that question, nonny, no I don't think this is a normal attitude. Personally i think "authors" like the one quoted are assholes, and I'm fairly steamed to think that it's posts like that that have contributed to the decline of commenting.

There are still plenty of us who love kudos, love comments, and mark our damn fics completed. I post my fics publicly hoping that others might enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them, and I appreciate knowing that something I've written has connected with someone, if only briefly.

Seriously, this kind of thing seems incredibly common across the genre even in shows that are supposed to be "good". But anime fans freak out whenever you point out how ridiculous it is.

Is this x/1999? I was into this ship when it came out because I was around the same age and I dunno, I liked the dynamic between them. Looking back I can see why it's hella problematic but... I still kind of ship it?
