117. There is anime out there with less generic prettiness. I didn't find Trigun too cutesy-shiny, although it does use some anime artistic conventions. Some of the characters in One Piece are actually rather odd-looking.

125. Who doesn't find him sexy to some degree?

138. I'd like there to be more girl countries, too. It would be nice for variety, and fit with the older anthropomorphic nation personification tradition.

Usopp's nose reminds me of Cyrano de Bergerac, or the modern video adaptation of the play ("Roxanne") starring Steve Martin. He must love the little birds so much, that he gives them THAT to perch on...

Of COURSE some of the characters in One Piece are 'odd-looking'. The ship's doctor is an anthropomorphic reindeer, they're hanging out with a skeleton, the first real bad guy they face is a clown, they've got a cyborg on the crew (one that runs on COLA at that, not to mention his metal nose and three chins...) and the main character is made of rubber.

And then there's awesomely artistic ones, for those who are only sucked in for the art. I wish I could sit down more people who think anime is all that generic style and make them watch Serial Experiments Lain, or Gankutsuou, or Mononoke, or Tokyo Godfathers, or for sheer gorgeousness, Hell Girl or frickin' 5 Centimeters Per Second. There is so much out there that is beautiful and not a generic style at all, and it saddens me that this is all some people see.

(Of course, it sorta saddens me that people dismiss an entire storytelling medium JUST for the art, and assume that other people only like it/should only like it JUST for the art. And upon saying that, I feel victorious, because the only anime I have ever been able to show one of my friends that she doesn't either hate the story or the art style is Serial Experiments Lain, which he down-and-outright loved. /random)
