Frankly, I'm mostly against too much of the real world leaking into my superhero comics.

Besides, yes, guns have to be registered, but gun owners are not required by law to be trained in combat, nor will they be automatically drafted at the government's whim (at least, not for simply being gun owners). Cloud 9 just wanted to fly; the Initiative forced her to become a soldier.

And yes, police training is a good idea. But there's also nothing to stop ordinary civilians from learning how to fire a gun, use pepper spray, learn self-defense, etc. Name me one superhero who didn't train on their own.

Whereas, I like the idea, because I've been reading comics for years going "this is cool, but, uhm. Vigilantism only works by author fiat." It was sort of nice to see it acknowledged. I think Tony went about it in a dumb way, but for me it works.

Yeah, but if you have a gun and it's not registered you get in trouble. Some places DO have some required gun training.

And, anyway, there's a difference between guns for self-defense and taking your gun and going out to look for bad people to shoot. (Also, the criminals who don't get hurt or killed, but tied up and left for the police? There's generally no evidence against them, so they probably walk anyway. Blah blah blah vigilantism only works by author fiat.)
