I was a fan from the moment the first ep aired, so I have no idea how it would feel now to see the show for the first time all in one go. The entire experience was hard to describe.

I think part of it was the waiting. Usually two years between seasons, for only 3 eps, so the letdown would be worse if it didn't live up to expectations.

Lots of fans were already complaining about the 3rd, but for most including myself it was the 4th (final) one that did it.

In the end I don't think it's any different from fans of HIMYM of GoT who kicked up a fuss about the final season or episode of their show, and how it 'ruined' what came before. You can watch those shows for the first time now, but if you're prepared for a crappy ending it won't hit the same way.

I got into Sherlock very late (watched all three seasons in one go and then had to wait for the fourth one). There were a few duds in the episodes, but I still enjoyed the show and was really looking forward to the fourth season (waiting for it was both fun and frustrating) and man, it was fucking awful. Especially the last episode. I watched it twice (once when it aired, the second with some friends) and it was just . . . ugh. I’m still happy I didn’t pay money to watch it in theaters (though it might’ve been fun to see how a theater full of people would’ve reacted).

I agree. I think if you binge it all at once, you'll definitely have a different experience than if you built anticipation over *years* and knowing people were disappointed in the ending means you don't have much in the way of expectations.
