I think they've looked at it plenty and all of their sources are more reputable than yours.

Nope. They are just older sources, one of the things about science is it changes once new evidence comes along. There are risks, same as any treatment; you weigh risks vs benefits. Pretending there are no risks is simply untrue, however much you want it to be true.
