(Anonymous) 2020-07-04 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)I mean, yeah that's why it's a fandom secret and not Exhibit #1 in Butthutt Fandom Old vs. The Star Wars Franchise. I didn't say it was rational and would stand up in the Fandom Court Of Allowed Feelings.
Also, Legends books mentioned comics stuff all the time. Nomi Sunrider was mentioned frequently. Exar Kun actually shows up in one trilogy. And the comic series where the Emperor was cloned repeatedly was mentioned as having happened in the same trilogy where Kun appeared.
So no, your idea that the different types of media of Star Wars remained separate before is not actually true.
I wasn't a comics or a Old Republic person, I never saw Sunrider show up anywhere as a character, just as a name in passing. Same thing with Kun, other than him being the designated sith in KJA's Jedi Academy trilogy I only ever saw his name slapped on a tomb but not his character. so probably there are better examples for your point there
(And I'm pretty sure the cloned Emperor thing was ignored as hard as possible (https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Dark_Empire#Controversies) by as many novel writers as could manage it. ngl the fact that TROS decided to use this, uh, "plot" was definitely not a point in it's favor)
You're saying things were different before, but then are citing examples of how things are exactly the same. How are Zahn and Stackpoole any different from Filoni? How is Mara Jade showing up everywhere any different from what happens now (and I can think of other examples like Aurra Sing and Aayla Secura ending up in the movies and becoming canon).
I have absolutely no doubt that Stackpole would have made Corran Horn the star in any other Star Wars project he was attached to, but thank god he wasn't let out of his lane. Mara's absolutely not the same because it wasn't Zahn, the person who created the character, putting her in video games and comic books and magazine covers. Other people pulled her into media and he didn't get any say in it, and certainly wasn't the driving force behind it. George spotting someone in the comics and putting them in the movie is a very different thing to me than idk, John Ostrander becoming a producer for The Force Awakens and instead of Lor San Tekka making that characer Quinlon Vos, and also he gets a lightsaber battle and a lunchbox at Walmart and a face character at parks.
Again, my gripe about all that baggage being swept away by Disney except one twelve-year old cartoon isn't changed. Maybe I could have let go of the resentment if TCW was mothballed along with the rest of it and Filoni let his old characters go instead of dragging them along into everything new he touched, but that's not what happened
