(Anonymous) 2020-07-05 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)Sometimes an issue isn't so major that it requires medication. Sometimes all you need is being able to talk to someone objective who has the training to help you process something and find healthy ways to cope instead of destructive ones.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-06 04:48 am (UTC)(link)You're right. Some issues can be sorted out through therapy alone, or simply, people being kind.
But. I was struggling with depression and anxiety for years. The kind that doesn't go away without actual brain-chemistry-altering meds. Which, when I was suffering the most, I kept hearing horror stories about how pills are useless or, worse, make you go kinda nutso. And when you're already in a bad mental place, it can be difficult to make decent life decisions when said decisions are currently stigmatised by every media, every conversation you hear.
So... while I do respect that not every mental health issue can be, or should be, medicated away, I would very much appreciate that people who have not been in the situation of needing meds would just. shut. the fuck. up.
Sometimes a damaged ankle can be fixed with rest and an icepack. That doesn't mean you tell people they don't need that ankle-brace their physio asked them to wear or, my god, getting surgery from a qualified surgeon. Okay? Sometimes mental health works the same way.
