DA - Seconding this strongly.

I do occasionally have shows where I care about many of the characters. I cared about almost everyone on BSG, for example. But I also wasn't fannish about BSG and didn't strongly ship any pairings for that show. So while I cared about all the characters quite a bit, I didn't care about any of the characters SO SO SO SO DAMN MUCH OMG HOW DO I HOLD ALL THESE FEELINGS?!! the way I do with my ships.

If I have a ship, though, then yeah, I care about the characters in the ship at an intensity level of eleven out of ten. And then there's everybody else. Everybody else is fine.
