(Anonymous) 2020-07-05 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)Ah yes, because you just talk out a broken brain like you do a broken bone! I see!
Listen, you break a leg, you don't just get a cast. You get physical therapy.
Medication and therapy are the cast and the PT. Get it?
And the people who whine about OMG BIG PHARMA AND OVERMEDICATION tend toward being anti-science fucktwits who think the water is turning frogs gay.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-05 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)There are people who have brief and circumstantial depression. It's not tied to their brain chemistry. Usually about money or a recent death in the family. That is able to be talked through-- and yet some doctors will absolutely just hear the keywords of "depressed" and "anxious" and write off a prescription for Xanax. This happens. I'm sorry if that's difficult to hear but that actually does happen.
And that's without even getting into doctors prescribing inaccurately. I myself was rotated through so many meds (and so many therapists, who were also awful) that made me feel a million times worse, because they were trying to baseline treat me for depression instead of actually working out what was really wrong with me (bipolar).
I'm sorry, but the system is not perfect and in some cases does harm. That does not mean that people shouldn't be on meds and be in therapy. It means that for-profit medical care will always focus on the fastest way to get a dollar, not on looking at nuance.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-05 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)At no point did I say that people who need medication should not have access to it. I have a script that keeps me alive. It would be great if the government did more to help people with the cost of essential medication, and yes, for some people that would include psychiatric meds.
Pharmaceutical companies are definitely out to increase profits. They wouldn't advertise or run promotional events if they weren't. They are like any other company. They want more people to buy their product.
Lol gay frogs. Not sure where that came from. Okay.
