Okay? You aren't everyone. And I hope your doctors didn't keep forcing meds on you when you were telling them they were not working. If they were, they were bad doctors. Good doctors and therapists listen. But we shouldn't just throw out doctors and medicine altogether because meds don't work for some people. You should still work with doctors and find what works for you. If the meds don't work, tell them, and they'll try another route.

I still struggle with my anxiety and depression, but what keeps them under control is mostly meds combined with the intense therapy I received at certain points and then going back to therapy for maintenance when I need it. It took medical doctors, psychiatrists, and therapists all together to figure out what worked for me.

No, I'm not everyone, but neither are you. The point is that medication is not the only answer, and it's not the right answer for everyone. Some people need medication! But for other people, it does nothing or only makes it worse. And there are absolutely a great number of doctors who try to push pills at people right off the bat - I know because I saw a few of them before I finally found the doctor who wanted to try CBT. The first few I saw heard the word "anxiety" and just shoved a script for Xanax/Buspar/what have you at me without ever trying to dig any deeper or explore other options.

Overmedicating is absolutely a problem, but it doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of people out there for whom medication is in fact the right answer. It just means that maybe we shouldn't be so quick to leap to it without trying all available options.
