107 - Seme - "Seh-meh" uke = "oo-keh" yaoi = "yah-oh-ee"

172 - I don't blame you. I lean toward the same assumption -- if someone says they have Asperger's, especially if it's a response to being challenged on their behavior, I don't believe them.

LOL, I'd been saying "same" and "ook". I don't exactly have any RL friends who know these kinds of things. o_o

I had a friend who insisted that the proper pronunciation of yaoi was "yay-oy."

I actually spent 3 years studying Japanese -- it's a bloody hard language, but the pronunciation is easy, once you learn the rules.

Ack! That makes me shudder a little.

Though "ook" is better than "yoo-kay". ACK!

You're welcome :)

I never knew how to say "uke" until the episode of Ouran where Hikaru said "yeah, and why is Kaoru the top". and I laughed for like 5 minutes..

I definitely always thought "yoo-kay" in my head.. like a ukelele.

No one with Asperger's would ever act like that. Most Asperger's people would be too afraid to even approach the cosplayer; much less act like an ass. I know I would and I have Asperger's! Asperger's is all about the fear of social interaction and insecurity. People who call themselves Aspergers' and are out going are fucking liars.

Asperger's is all about the fear of social interaction and insecurity.

Not to cast doubt on your Dx; but those two things aren't actually diagnostic criteria, and are not required traits. Obnoxiously in-your-face Aspies DO exist; there's plenty of professional anecdotes available in the literature to support that.

In fact, the only person I've ever met in real life who I thought might be an Aspie was like that. He was actually a sweet person, and certainly didn't intend to be annoying, but he had no concept of things like socially appropriate physical space, vocal volume, appropriate topics of conversation, etc. And talk about odd prosody - his laugh sounded like he'd learned it from a book. (I mean, he actually went, "Ha-ha-ha!")

I find it bizarre that you're so attached to denying the existence of Aspies who don't have social phobia. It might be a lot less common that Aspies who ARE socially phobic, but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

I'm aware of that, but every book I've read, every doctor I've talked to, all of them can confirm that Aspies is an anxiety/social retard disease. I'm sure that some obnoxious Apsies do exist, but on the overall whole; that's just not who they are.

I was just stating for this particular case, that this person most likely did not have Aspergers. Especially since the person blamed it on the disease, a person who actually had Aspergers would never blame it on their disease.

Actually, the "u" in "uke" is supposed to be a short sound. It's resembles the "oo" in words like "pool" and "school" closely, but is much shorter. Also, the "a" and "o" in yaoi floats together a bit, making it sound more like "yow", or maybe "yaow". The "ee" is a short vowel sound. In fact, all the syllables in these words are very short.

Yes, thank you, I am aware. This was written as a guide for people who don't know any Japanese pronunciation -- the kind who aren't sure if seme should sound like "same" or uke should sound like "yuke." (Or, in one example that was very strongly argued to me, yaoi pronounced as "yay-oy.")

Re: 107

Oh, sorry, I didn't know. People with English as their first language seem to have a lot of trouble with the shortness of the syllables, so I just thought I'd clarify.
