(Anonymous) 2008-12-09 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)I am admittedly as pissed as the OP about twits using my disability as an excuse for that sort of conduct (which is not so much characteristic of Asperger Syndrome behavior as it is Asshat Syndrome), but it's reactions like hers that make it that much harder for me to politely request a little patience and understanding when misscommunications inevitably happen. I'm consistently trying as hard as I can, but having other people be willing to put forth a little extra effort and tolerance once in a while makes my life a hell of a lot less stressful. It's not like any of us commit social fuckups on purpose, after all.

But reactions like the OP's don't really help matters any because it makes people who are legitimately doing the best they can less able to disclose out of fear of getting that kind of response... so more and more, the only face of Aspergers getting exposure are the wankers trying to pull a get-out-of-jail-free card. It's a vicious cycle.
