Dumb question about comment etiquette (on fanfic)

So if you come across a gen/friendship fic for a pairing you ship, and the author mentions in the notes that they ship it, is it okay to ask in a comment if they plan on writing any ship fic in the future, or is that inappropriate?

I don’t think it’d be a terrible crime to ask, but I’d say something along the lines of “I’d love to see you write more of [insert pairing here] because you’re so good at conveying the relationship.” It puts less pressure on the author, but you’ll still get a response if they are working on something.
