I agree with you, OP. It's made worse by the fact that I live in Louisiana, and it's supposed to be one of "our" great books. Yeah, no. It's horrible.

It does get one half-star for obviously being written by someone who spent time in New Orleans during... not Mardi Gras. But it's still not good.
