yeah i think most fic-writers are looking for proof-readers more than any kind of true beta, and that is fine, but we should probably be more honest about that in general in fandom imo.

it's why i only have fandom friends or my partner go over my fic before posting, i want someone to catch any obvious errors, not to tell me 'this bit sucks'. although if they do give me a suggestion or two to help tidy up a clunky paragraph i am good with that because sometimes a 2nd perspective can be really helpful at fixing a part of the story i hated.
