Seconding this, but also, I want to add:

I love short fics that deftly paint a part of a picture, but do so in a way that hint at the full picture and encourage me to extrapolate. That's the type of tease I enjoy, and it takes skill to pull off, imo. OTOH, sometimes I'll read a fragment that doesn't really feel like it's more than what's right there on the page. It's not the tip of an iceberg; it's just an ice chunk bobbing along. That's not something I personally tend to enjoy.
