Why I do it is not so much a tease as...

Well, first of all I'm a stickler for structure in long-form fiction, and most multi-chapter fanfic does that poorly. It's quite apparent that the author is pantsing it when I've gone through three or more consecutive chapters with minimal real development. And honestly, having failed at the last five NaNoWriMos, I've largely given up developing my own.

The second is, the long-form fic is already done IMO. It's the delivered game or series. But especially with games, there's usually scenes and conflicts that are alluded to but not fully developed. There's also the "below decks" stories of what's happening behind the main cast.

While I can't do Lord of the Rings or even Pride and Prejudice, I can do setup, conflict, rising action, climax, and resolution for a handful of characters in short-story form. Sometimes I challenge myself to do it flash fic form, because I'm a stickler for structure and I like working under those constraints. And I really don't care if I get more than a handful of kudos for it, because I'm probably not in your fandom anyway.
