If you're talking about me, then yes, it is a problem with modern AUs as a concept. I'm sorry if my example wasn't a good one, but I'm hard pressed to come up with an example of a modern AU that I'd like better than a historical one, if the quality level of both are comparable.

I see what you're saying now! I think the example just confused me, because that specific kind of summary is almost its own subgenre of modern AU and those fics are really generic and boring in a very specific way.

Sorry. I didn't want to cite a specific example of a real fic, so I just made up one that sounded like something I wouldn't necessarily be interested in.
