Re: Advice-Bras, so maybe TMI a bit

One thing to keep in mind is whether you have wide-set, close-set, or average-set breasts. I have wide-set breasts (meaning they sit further apart than average, and the breast tissue doesn't end until much further around my torso, under my armpit). I really struggle to find comfortable underwire bras, because the underwire tends to rest on top of my breast tissue on the outer sides of my breasts, no matter how many times I scoop my breast tissue towards the front.

Often, when people find underwire particularly uncomfortable, it's because they have wide-set or close-set breasts. If you find the underwire in your bras rests on the outer part of your breast tissue, you might be wide-set. If you find it's the inner part of the bra (the gore) that pokes into the inner part of your breast tissue, you might have close-set breasts. If you go to a fancy schmancy bra place, they'll probably be able to direct you to bras that work for wide-set or close-set breasts. major bra chains like Victoria's Secret probably won't be able to do that, so if you want to shop there you'll have to eyeball it. Generally the wider the gore (center part of the bra that joins the cups together), the more likely the bra is to fit wide-set breasts, and the narrower the gore, the more likely it is to fit close-set breasts. But that's just a very general rule of thumb.
