No, you're not. It's just that recently, a lot of game developers have gotten lazy and used flashy cutscenes to dazzle the audience, rather than actually making a good game (I'm looking at you, FFX). Those of us who've been gaming since the NES (or longer, in my case--Atari 2600) get frustrated with younger fans used to having everthing spoonfed to them with pretty cutscenes.

lol I quite liked FFX. But anyway, I haven't been playing video games quite that long (very first was some Mario game on NES). I do enjoy some big grand cutscenes, especially with how advanced and just plain pretty the graphics are now. But I don't think the shiny defines a game as good. Also, I have to admit that younger fans can't help being young. I hardly think many of them are going to scour the market for super old consoles. Some games... don't age very well at all.

THIS. I think with many of the games in the FF franchise, they just keep getting better. I like how the people at Square (and now Squeenix) can take traditional elements of video game RPGs and keep adapting them-- always changing how Summons and Magic work, how battles work, how leveling up works... it's always a challenge. The pretty cutscenes are just a nice respite after hours of endless battles (YMMV).

I don't know, I started with the Atari 2600 (though I got it in 1984), and I love many of the new games. I'm not bothered by the cut scenes at all, and it's not as if there weren't as many bad games back then as there are now. I know what I'm talking about; I owned the E.T. game...
