Am I seriously the only person who thought the storyline was awesome and compelling? Seriously? Anyone?

Some parts of the gameplay in the first game pissed me off SO BAD (ajskhfkaj ALICE IN WONDERLAND WORLD WHY DID I GET STUCK IN YOU?! and having to race Riku pissed me off so bad because I failed so hardcore at it), but I was thrilled when the plot started evolving after the first game. The first game was adorable and fluff and sweet and fun with mixes (even strong mixes!) of dark. Chain of Memories was... pretty half-and-half (most of the sweetness was bittersweet, what with Namine, etcetera). And KHII just took everything and expanded it. The Roxas storyline broke my heart, seriously. And yeah, I'll get called lame for it I'm sure, but Axel's death broke my heart. In fact, in a lot of ways, I found the Nobodies (including Roxas and Namine) maybe not more compelling, but a lot more interesting and heartbreaking than the three mains. I love Sora, Kairi, and Riku, but the Nobodies are pretty tragic for (for the most part) fucked-up villains.

I agree! Well, I haven't played CoM, and I thought racing Riku was just challenging enough to be fun, but I agree with the rest. I even shed a tear or two for Axel (and spent hours to come up with a plausible way to resurrect him in fanfic...).

CoM is actually really cool, IMO. It introduces some of the Nobodies I like best in the games, and Namine's part in the story is really, unbelievably sad. Especially after the first game, which was mostly uplifting, even in spite of all the things that happen in it and the ending. Pretty much all the little twists and turns after the first game left a lump in my throat. And because of all the hype and haet for Roxas and Axel and Axel/Roxas in some parts of the fandom (with the other half being TOTALLY IN LOVE), I was totally prepared to roll my eyes at Axel and at the pairing, but I couldn't discount that... it's really moving and compelling, okay. Love came outta nowhere and I felt randomly satisfied about it. :>

Yeah, I feel I'm missing out on a part of the story, but I didn't have a system to play it on until recently. I'm planning on getting it as soon as possible, though.

I've dipped my toes in the fandom, but haven't really got into it properly; I'm mostly attached to Sora, and fandom is either indifferent towards him, or outright hate him (apparently for killing a few of the Nobodies, which I find a bit much, really). I really like both Axel and Roxas, but I'm mostly interested in reading about them in connection with Sora, and fics like that don't seem to exist. And there's no meta, which is also something I really like (and I'm not sure where to post it if I were to write some myself).

The enormous amount of fic for Axel/Roxas is also a bit disheartening, to be honest; my (possibly mistaken) impression is that Axel/Roxas shippers ignore Sora, or even demonise him. And I like Axel/Roxas, don't get me wrong. I'm just overly apprehensive, I suppose.

I've noticed a funny thing, though; in fandom, much is made of Axel and Roxas sharing sea-salt ice cream, yeah? The thing is, in the game novels (Short Stories volume 1, Other Diamonds, to be precise), it says that Axel and Riku always share sea-salt ice cream, and are very good friends, and even though Riku is in Ansem's shape, he laughs like a different person when he's with Axel (that part takes place just before the events of KH2 starts, I think). I don't think there's a clue in the game that they even know each other!

If a game manages to make me cry at the end, then, in my opinion, the game has succeeded with what it was supposed to: Making an engaging and fun story, with memorable characters. And(This will probably make me the lamest person of the year, BUT WHO CARES)the ending of KH II made me cry, because it was such a sweet and happy ending :) I didn't cry when any of the Org 13 member(Not even Axel, lol)"died", but I felt sad for Roxas - because of the life he could never have :,(
