lol I find myself commenting on your comment again. I didn't submit 104, but it's as though I did in my brain. I actually talked to my mom about Schumann/Brahms during a long car trip the other day..

How brahms took care of Clara following Robert's committal but never made any advances and just supported her and cared for her.. in my brain, it's an epic tale of unrequited love and music. BRB WRITING A SCRIPT.

Also, I sang Ein Deutches Requiem with full orchestra my senior year of college, and it was one of the most emotional experiences of my life.

I've always loved Brahms, and when I first read about his life the whole story of him and the Schumanns, and then the thing between Clara and Brahms completely broke my heart (I'm not sure if in a good or a bad way). It's just so beautiful and romantic in a sort of understated way. Really, it's beyond me why nobody ever made a movie about this story... (...did they? Brahms alone is not a very good movie-material, I suppose. WRITE THAT SCRIPT!!)

And good for you for having been given the chance to sing Ein Deutsches Requiem. Sadly I had to give up the choir before we could get to sing anything by Brahms, but whenever there's an opportunity to listen to any of his works around here I always go (provided I have the money, classical concert tickets are damn expensive over here).

Haha yeah, my degree is in voice performance, so I had the opportunity to do a lot of masterworks and some operas. =) I was a Vivaldi Gloria soloist too and just did Messiah last week (and got paid, omg my degree is useful!).

German art song is by far my favorite. Brahms breaks my damn heart. I genuinely have no clue if anyone ever wrote a movie about it. But that would make a great semi-historical drama about a fabled romance.

I mean Robert Schumann in and of himself is tragic as hell.. slowly going insane from auditory hallucinations. His romance with Clara was sweeping and amazing without the added bonus of Brahms' unrequited love.

GOD DAMN I WANT SOMEONE TO WRITE THIS.

Oh god, are you me? The way all three of them cared for each other in Schumann's last years was heartbreaking. And I was lucky enough to sing Ein Deutches Requiem my junior year--it's just an indescribably beautiful piece, isn't it?

lol all I have to say is DENN ALLES FLEISCH ES IST WIE GRASS.

or whatever. It's been like 3 years since I took German. But I adored movement 2. Our soloists were amazing as well, man. I adore that piece so much.. I normally hate fugues, but these fugues were just fantastic.

Gosh. lol I'm such a music fangirl.
