Well so now Adam is there, the Torchwood crew have all lost their memories of him, and he quickly diddle's Rhys's memory into thinking that he's hired him as a truck driver. Trying not to make the same mistakes as last time, he inserts himself into Rhys life first, and through him, Gwen, and through her the rest, working to totally fuck them over as hard as he absolutely can in every way he can think of. Torchwood catches on, of course, but since Adam actually learns from his mistakes, they find him impossible to get rid of by simply forgetting. (He's made too many outside contacts who remember him and just bring him back).
So they end up coming up with a plan where they work on a plan, build a containment device and then distracting him while Rhys triggers the device. This only works because after setting everything up, they retconned themselves into forgetting everything about it and left Rhys a note and instructions. So while Adam is playing with them in some sadistic and degrading way, Rhys breaks into Torchwood and springs the trap.
