It's not anything to do with his height or what the trend is in the fandom-- it's just that I personally don't like Ed, thus the idea of him in any form of control triggers my cynicism.

As for Riza, I prefer to see her as a top regardless of the pairing, but I acknowledge that her not wanting to be in control all the time is natural. Just, again, I don't like the idea of it being with Ed.

And don't say that I 'just don't get Ed and his ZOMG horrible life,' or that 'Ed is SO AEWSOEM and I BE RETARDED if I don't love him so huggy-muggy much'-- he just doesn't do anything for me :/

It's a bit hard to be in this fandom and not like Ed. Or for that matter watch the show or read the manga. He's, well, the main character. I can see you not particularly shipping him with anyone, but disliking him being in control -- that's basically disliking the entire series. FMA is Ed and his brother kicking ass and bringing down evil, and all the quirky and interesting allies and foes they happen to meet along the way.

What, so I'm not allowed to find the universe itself and the other characters more interesting than him? I wasn't aware that there was a contract of endearment that I was required to sign upon watching the first episode. I'm not even really in the fandom as it is.

I'm all for flawed, believeable characters, but Ed did nothing for me for most of the series (though there were moments I did like him). Besides being ignorant and disdainful of other cultures, being a smart-alec know-it-all, and brushing off his childhood friend who cared about him and Al so often without even a fucking goodbye, there wasn't a lot he did that made me love him. Al endeared himself to me because he got tossed into his situation without really knowing what the risks were, Ed did not. Believe me, I know what it means to care about a sibling so much, but that doesn't mean that he gets a free ticket for my respect.

Frankly, if I wanted to care about yet another smirking, self-righteous shonen character I'd just watch Bleach.
