122. You have to kind of take that with a grain of salt, though. I'm a lesbian and while I very rarely go "that's gay :/" I know other gay and bi people who do use it like that, and I don't get automatically bent when I hear it. I also use the words "faggot" and "fag" in a fandom sense a lot of the time. (As in, fagging over a series or character.) It's not always an insult to homosexuals. Does the guy give any other indications of being homophobic or anything?

134. I don't think I will ever understand the argument that Disney's remakes of legends are bad because they don't follow the original. That's... not what Disney does. They tell a new story that is heavily based on the original. And yes, it's for kids. Complaining that it's dumbing the legends down for kids is kind of missing the point.

135. Wow, see, this is why I don't touch bandoms and don't feel inclined to get into RPS. Gotta love it when people decide that other human beings are "useless," and basically say that if a band isn't absolutely perfect, they're not worth appreciating or being a fan of. I don't think I could handle touching communities that treat real people like this when I already get irked when people do it with fictional characters.

I feel like a lot of people are making weird assumptions. I don't even particularly like the musical, I just think it's silly to look down on musical fans because the book came first -- especially since the book version of Wicked was based heavily on the movie version of The Wizard of Oz. THERE'S IRONY IN THERE SOMEWHERE.

Ah, no! I totally get where you're coming from, I was just all (: over someone who was pointing out how facepalm-worthy that is! Wicked the book was awesome, but the musical was also amazing. And I had a feeling you were talking about the elitist fans who try to say that the musical was omghorrible and other people are not TRUE fans if they like that MUSICAL and. Ugh.

You raise an awesome point~ Though I actually was impressed by how well the book version of Wicked managed to balance the book and movie versions of Oz. There were a lot of book!Oz details in Wicked-the-book that made me seriously, obnoxiously squealy. XD; I kind of take the musical as an entirely seperate thing, because it obviously wasn't supposed to be a book clone.

Also, I can totally understand loving the book and not liking the musical at all, but I think when someone looks down on people for liking the musical when the author of the book likes the musical... their elitism is kind of composed of fail. :/ ;;

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I meant. And as an old-school Oz fan, I definitely noticed bits based on the Baum book, too. It's more of a mixed canon, though since Elphaba's green-ness is so important I'd say it's a little weighted toward the movie canon side of things.

Of course, my overwhelming love for the original has somewhat dampened my enthusiasm for Wicked, though I will say that the musical version seems to work better with the image of Oz I have from the original than the book version does.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting this time of reaction to my secret and while I admit my words do seem pretty harsh, I think you're taking my "useless" comment completely out of context. In any case, I don't want to be part of a fandom where I have to pretend like everyone is perfect. I'm not saying it's okay to go around bashing people, but there has to be happy medium. Which is where I am. I can overlook what I perceive to be their faults and enjoy them as a whole.

And you actually sound really level-headed about it. I do hope you have fun in fandom -- I misread the secret into saying "they're not hot, they're not insanely talented, I don't like them as people and some of them are so useless, I'm only in it because I like how they work together, otherwise they suck" which does seem mind-bogglingly harsh. I'm honestly glad you didn't mean it that way, and thanks for clearing it up ♥

(And ooh, yeah, I know it's not limited to bandom. As I said, I have actually seen batshit haters across the spectrum -- I'd just be scared to get into a fandom where the haters are hating at REAL PEOPLE, because I would totally not be able to handle that without rage. XD;)

Well, to be fair, my secret doesn't really leave much room for other kinds of interpretations so I can totally see why you would react that way. I think it might have been better if I just said that I probably wouldn't be a fan if they were soloists... It's them as a group that really attracts me... Is that still saying the same thing?? Man, it's really hard to express everything on just a 600x600 picture.

Also, I agree with you about the creepy haters. I don't know if you're familiar with the band in my secret (DBSK), but one of the members was actually poisoned by some random girl that didn't like him. It's so bizarre how people can feel so strongly about people they're never met - and even act on those feelings. I think it's creepy on both ends of the like/dislike spectrum (the blind worshiping and the insane hating). So, yeah... I wouldn't be able to last in such communities either!

Basically, my friend went a bit over the top with her attention-seeking. She used to just drawn extreme grotesquities, such as distorted versions of cartoon characters, and I found it funny, she got some interesting reactions but it was pretty harmless and fun.
But then she started leaving needless snarky comments on art she didn't like, which I tolerated. Eventually, though, she commented on a serious picture dealing with a societal issue, and flooded the comments section with capslock flames about the artist's drawing style. She also went and harassed some other people by flooding their pages with rude and sometimes outright violent comments.
