No offense but this just seems like kind of a weird combination of ideas somehow? Like isn't there a dissonance in saying Thor shouldn't be fat because, one, fatshaming is bad and, two, Thor needs to be hot?

I don't think Thor being fat is inherently fatashaming. I think how they did it was fatshaming. They played it off as a joke. His weight was a thing to make fun of. That was the fatshaming part.

Thor doesn't need to be hot. I like Thor being hot. Sorry. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I doubt they would have done that same sort of storyline with a female character because women have to remain hot. Well, Thor was a male character that was considered hot by many people.

I was already displeased and uncomfortable with the depiction of fat and depressed Thor and then I walked into a children's toy section one day and became 100% convinced that it was deliberate fatshaming.

They made a set of Endgame toys for kids and it had all the avengers in their white time travel outfits. Thor was not modelled on how he appeared in Endgame. He was regular sized Thor.

Fat Thor was a gag. A gag that they decided was a funny idea in a film but something that they couldn't bring themselves to make into a children's toy.

They did the market research (because they all do) and they decided that kids wouldn't be interested in playing with a fat doll. But laughing at a fat person in a film was A-OK.

It wasn't fatshaming because Thor was overweight, it was fatshaming because the way the movie framed it as a joke. "Thor was so hot and now he's fat and sad, isn't that funny haha" isn't exactly tasteful.
