Yep, exactly. I read ayrt's comment and felt they were trying really, really hard to rationalize away the obvious sexism.

Look, Butcher's not Satan incarnate for writing this. He's just writing it from his own perspective, which is very straight white male centric, and he doesn't seem to have the tools to step outside that viewpoint very much. Harry's written to come off as a sort of hapless everyman with a huge appeal to other straight white male readers. There's a reason why Dresden Files was cited as an example of "good" fantasy by the tiresome misogynist brigade in SF/F. It's not a coincidence that they like a series where men are men and women are largely hot sidekicks.
