Using Spacey as an example, I watched Se7en again recently and found it *ok* because he's barely in that and it's more Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman's film. But then I thought about this and I'm really not sure if I could watch American Beauty again, but tbh there's always been a part of me slightly uncomfortable with that film anyway.

I have a friend who was a HUGE lostprophets fan back in the day and she absolutely cannot listen to their music anymore and binned all her CDs. I can understand. I was never a fan but I think I'd struggle to untangle all that from the music if I was. It was horrific.

Generally horrible creators don't ruin movies or TV shows for me, and I'm not sure whether a horrible author would ruin a book for me. But music is a whole different issue. Most music is such a direct expression of the artist's inner self that yeah, I think the artist turning out to be atrocious would ruin their music for me.

I get that anon. Perhaps because films and TV usually have multiple creators in a way? I think with books it would depend if the work was considered at the very least semi-autobiographical or not? Speaking as someone who writes I do pour a bit of myself, however small, into most things so I'd be suspicious in the case of someone who turned out awful who is also an author, especially if their work dealt with some horrible themes.

The "pour yourself in" element is definitely more obvious in modern music a lot of the time.

I’m having weird times with the band Moxy Fruvous, of which Jian Ghomeshi (popular Canadian tv and radio host) was part years before he had sexual assault charges filed against him. The members often switched lead singers and writers between them, though you can kind of tease apart who likely had the biggest parts in which songs, and I’m kind of... relieved?... that many of my favorites, or the more fun tunes don’t seem to be “his”, lyrically or on main vocals.

AYRT - I actually know Moxy Fruvous! (I mean I know their music, not them as people.) What are the odds?!

Yeah, I haven't really listened to them in...a very long time. But I did really like their Live Noise album for a while and even went to a MF concert when I was like...12? And yeah, the whole Ghomeshi thing is definitely icky. :/

But, like you said, at least when it's a band, other people also worked on creating the music, too.
