142. I think they secretly wanted people to ship it. I mean, they were always the male and female lead in their school musicals. HELLO. The male and female leads are almost ALWAYS a romantic pairing. Not to mention the first movie interpretation of their relationship rocked. Sharpay like Troy, but she still wanted to railroad him so her brother could be all smoochy-smoochy with her in the musical, instead.

170. No, no, no. You don't understand. Once a female character shows that she has a sensitive side, or doubts or fears, she is no longer a "strong female character." Because you're not allowed to anything less than kickass 100% of the time if you have boobs. Men, of course, are exempt from this rule.

And if a woman doesn't show a sensitive side, doubts or fears and is always kickass, she's a bitch. Remember that! *punts Fan Dumb*

Oh, yes. I forgot about that. So, the only choice female characters have to avoid fandom's wrath (that, ironically enough, stems mostly from the female side of it), is to either die in the middle of the series, therefore garnering sympathy from previous haters out of pure "Oh, she no longer is a threat," or to simply not exist, at all.

Good luck, ladies!

But if her death scene is too dramatic, or she dies to save people, she's a Mary Sue.

So really not existing is the only safe option.

Dammit, you beat the Mary Sue bit to me. =(

That's it, from now on I'm judging male characters on a scale twice as harsh as Fan Dumb judges females. If it has a penis and makes a mistake it's either a rapist, a crybaby, too dumb to live or a bastard who should be put to sleep for the good of mankind. =P

...okay, not really. But seriously, female characters get shit thrown at them for EVERYTHING but males can get away with anything. Well, if they're hot. And their names aren't Shinji Ikari or Mamoru Chiba. Which is just as bad because apparently being a not-stud, frightened kid, or a male love interest who suffered character decay in the anime is a crime against humanity.

I can't imagine if male characters were judged by even the same standards as female characters. I mean, I have never heard anyone say "I just don't normally like male character" without any kind of qualifiers like "I just don't normally like X type of male character." It might HAPPEN. I wouldn't exactly be surprised. But since I've never heard it, and I have heard people say that about female characters, oh, probably every few months or so online, and a couple of times a year in RL? I'd say one of these things is more acceptable than the other.

And if she does anything ill-advised and emotional even if she's all alone, she's an idiot. (::coughCLIFFSCENEcough::)

... also, oddly, I just realized that in the Keroro fandom, the boy in my icon is going through the HATE from exactly this. At least from some fangirls. Despite the fact that he shows no interest in the girl in question, despite the fact that she has this huge schoolgirl/idol-worship crush on him. MY WORLD IS SUDDENLY BACKWARDS.

170./ Also, if it's a female character with a very subdued, gentle personality, her mere existence is degrading to all females and she's just fanservice for the men and she can't possibly be strong or admirable in any way. However, despite the fact that she may be too shy or naive to believably have sex in canon, if she could potentially interfere with any slash pairings, she is a slut and a whore.
