You're very much not alone in this.

The other day I read that even Clamp themselves lost track of the plot.

(Anonymous) 2020-07-27 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone?

Urgh, shortly after Fai's backstory plot TRC went down the drain and don't even get me started on how xxxHolic ended.

I used to ADORE CLAMP so much, but for me they haven't done anything great in ages. Even the new CCS manga (That's on hiatus now, too? Dull surprise here) just feels soulless compared to the original? :(

Aw, Clear Card is on hiatus too? Damn. I love CLAMP, but boy do they leave a lot of stuff unfinished.

I understand generally what happened but Clamp used the whole 'logic is breaking down' way too much as an excuse to write things that didn't make sense. I think the final chapters worked better when I read them in volume form versus chapter by chapter as they came out but it was still a weak ending (and don't even get me started on xxxHolic...).

The things I remember the most from Tsubasa are the clones, the eye scream, and that infamous comment from Vic Mignogna or however you spell his name that CLAMP had personally informed him that Fai was a hundred percent, without a doubt heterosexual.

It find it suspicious that Vic "what are you talking about my character/everyone on this show is straight" Mignogna kept on appearing in shows famous for their homoerotic or mlm vibes (Hetalia, ouran High, Free!, etc)

CLAMP has fun ideas and terrible execution of them.

CLAMP will always have a place in my heart and xxxHolic is still one of my favorite series next to X - but yeah Tsubasa was an absolute mess.

I always figured that I had disliked that series because I felt like I was 'tricked' into reading Tsubasa in order to follow the whole story-line with xxxHolic.
When it first came out it was advertised that although Tsubasa and xxxHolic were interwoven with each other plot-wise, you didn't have to read both to understand the story - so I happily stuck with xxxHolic and decided to come back to Tsubasa at a later date. Except that further into xxxHolic I remember reading dream sequences with Watanuki and Sakura that made it feel like something had happened in Tsubasa that was connected to the xxxHolic story. So not wanting to miss out I tried to catch up reading Tsubasa - only to find that there wasn't anything and that Watanuki and Sakura were just good friends based on the time he first met Sakura when she was unconscious. I've been petty-mad over it ever since (in addition to the mass clones mess ending lol)

I did the same thing, but ended up having to concurrently read the two because there was stuff going on in Tsubasa that didn’t make sense without reading xxxHolic. At first, having two CLAMP stories to read together was fun, but then the story just got more and more convoluted and I have no idea what happened after Acid Tokyo except clones were involved.

I wish someone could remake TRC with a proper story because I'm still completely in love with the designs and costumes.

Are you me, OP? Every time I remember I just get mad.

edit: You know what? Scrap everything I said. The ending is confusing and horrible and I will forever be mad they dragged Holic with it. At leas the sequel one-shot was simple and cute.

TRC could have worked if they had just made everything a little less complicated (seriously, why have the clones be R!Syaoran's parents. Who thought that was a good idea and why). I wish we could have gotten an anime OVA for the Clow arc like they did for Tokyo and Nihon, but that would change things so they actually made sense.

(xxxHolic ending was perf, fight me)
