I hope it encourages more productions to release well filmed stage shows instead of just shoving them into vaults.

Oh god yes. I like Hamilton, but I would *love* to get more stage shows on dvd.

The problem with doing that is it's a lot of work, but way easier, to get the permission of/wrangle royalties for everyone involved in a filmed production if it's done before filming. Stuff that's shoved in vaults is shoved in vaults because Actor's Equity and other unions involved have set rates for what the actors being filmed get paid for archival vs. publicly released footage, iirc.
