I didn't realize this was a thing people did. I knew people sometimes asked for money to adopt a child or afford IVF, but to adopt a pet? All the shelters in my area regularly have days where you can adopt a pet for around five bucks.

I understand that pets can be important for mental health and all that, but needing money to adopt a pet is definitely not an essential. Someone I follow reblogged a post from a person asking for donations who has an entire webpage devoted to why they can't pay for anything and within the explanations was one section mentioning how they bought a cat and were paying for it in installments, and any desire I had to donate money died right there. I'm sure if asked this person would have a whole story prepared as to why they needed this specific cat but I don't care. You can adopt a cat at a shelter for fairly cheap. If you're begging for the internet to help you afford your car and your meds and your rent, you don't need to be buying a pet so expensive it needs to be paid for in installments.

That's cheap, but I'm not sure it's typical. It's $75 adoption from the county shelter, and that includes spay/neuter and shots. Next county over is $100.
