Ha! This was EXACTLY my feeling back in 2003. Procedurals just felt so stale. I could always tell you the whole plot by watching the first 5 or 10 minutes.

My solution: Anime. Very weird anime (I think I started with Hellsing). There was no telling for me at that time what was going to happen next and I found it glorious.

I watch anime too haha, so unfortunately it's not something I could "escape" to since I was already partaking! I want some fun, silly procedurals back. Talking with that other nonnie about NCIS:LA has brought back why I liked it so much. It wasn't "comedy first" like say a "Brooklyn 911" type show is, but it was also kind of tongue in cheek, cranking it up to eleven with details like the other nonnie joked about, one of the MCs is literally an orphan who has no first name and was bounced around to 47 foster homes as a kid, it's so deliciously over the top lol. But you still had serious cases to solve while you had this goofy cast of characters that were kind of riffing on the archetypes of previous NCIS shows. It was very much like Hawaii 5-0 in tone. For some reason we're not really getting these anymore, which sucks, and all the older procedurals are like I said, past their sell-by date. :(
