173. Maybe it's because having a canonically gay character suddenly renounce the realization that s/he defied the "straight until proven otherwise" thing that so utterly pervades human society comes across as a denial of non-straight sexualities, a "correction" of sorts.

I can see where they come from, but honestly, as long as it's convincing (in either case), that's all that matters to me.

Except "romance" also includes het (and even more rarely, yuri) and shameless OC or Mary-Sue pairings, and is certainly not limited to "buttfucking"; you should have specified "slash" or "yaoi" or "m/m" or any of those in your example search if that was the point you were trying to make. Librarian says you fail at searching.

(Also, women aren't the only ones who write romance and men aren't the only ones who write action/adventure. Get the fuck off your generalization horse.)

I know that's absurd- I was using the example (and evidently failed) to point out that it's just as absurd to have someone "wake up gay". Neither one happens.

I was just sick of being told in a fandom where Slash Comes First, my daring to take a character who has a history of heterosexual relationships and put him....in a heterosexual relationship is VILE AND DISGUSTING. When the slashers start sounding like the Prop 8 supporters I had to deal with, I get annoyed.

Your anger at that one person who commented on your fic has colored your view on fans of slash in general, and interaction between slash fans and het fans. In fact, in many other fandom, slash is not the default. Many fans enjoy both slash and het, and have no idea what the fuck this supposed schism is supposed to be about. In the future, avoid blanket statements.

What? Your secret clearly says that the slashers were reacting to some fic about a gay boy engaging in a heterosexual relationship. Now you're saying the character in question is someone who has a history of heterosexual relationships. Keep your stories straight, so which is it?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Torchwood. Jack. Currently canonically in a relationship with a man, which is the fandom's darling OTP and full of crazy people who ignore that Jack (or is it the other one? Ianto?) had relationships with with women.

I think. I've never watched the show; all I know about it comes from GAFF and Fandom!Secrets.

Both Jack and Ianto have had relationships with women. Jack's an omnisexual slut and Ianto apparently went off women after his last was turned into an evil robot.
