116. Not the OP, but pls not to be labeling us all as woman haters simply because we happen to not like a character who is female. It's a serious generalization and it's kind of annoying, like we're not allowed to point out problems with a female character because, holy Christ! Obviously we hate them for being female and having sex with the main character and getting in the way of our OTP, right?

Anna had her legitimate problems, not the least her story being rushed and not making much sense (she ripped out her "grace"? She says that angels can't have feelings when Castiel obviously feels enough to like Dean and Uriel feels disgust at him? Okay) and both actors' lack of chemistry with each other. Her sudden switch to remembering her life as an angel was also badly written and hurt her character. They pushed too much too quick, forgot about the "show don't tell" rule, and that makes it hard to find her sympathetic. I did not like her for these reasons. It has nothing to do with her being a woman.

I like Ruby (yes, even though she's gasp! having a sexual relationship with one of the male leads. In fact, that's part of the reason why I like her). I like Pam. I even sort of liked Jo. Hell, I liked Anna before she became a sparkly angel full of cliches.

If it happened with one female character or even two, hell, three, I'd mark it off as something else. But CHRIST! It happens with every single female character that comes across the screen for any length of time. Congratulations on being one of the few I've seen in this fandom that likes anyone with Double X chromosomes (Ruby, Pam and Jo), but the fact of the matter is, you are in the minority. Mostly - yes, mostly - this fandom has been infamous in its outright hatred of all female characters - Joe, Ruby, Bella, Anna, you name it, there have been a great and overwhelming number of SPN fandom fans that have wished them death almost from the very first episode they graced the screen. (The only exception I've seen thus far is Mary Winchester, who probably doesn't make the fans as annoyed because she doesn't serve as a potential love interest for either Sam or Dean.) On the whole, any and all female characters are treated like crap in this fandom. That is a telling statement.

I'm not saying every single person in this fandom is a girl-hater. I'm not saying you're one of them. I'm just saying there's an obvious trend, and the viciousness and lame girl-hate of secret #116 doesn't surprise me in the least because it's this fandom. If the trend is so blatant and obvious, don't get indignant at me for calling the fandom on it. And certainly don't be so righteously angry when you choose to hide behind an anonymous comment. It automatically undermines any credibility you may have.

You're right in that there is a lot of girl hate in this fandom, moreso than in others. But a big part of that is because this show is notorious for writing very poor female characters. Someone once said to me that it's like they write women how a geeky guy assumes women are, rather than writing them like actual women. I think that describes the problem really well. Every once in a while they'll write a good reoccuring female character (Ellen, Jo, season 3 Ruby, Meg), and they do alright with women that only appear in one episode. But when a woman is actually important to the storyline, everything just falls apart. They forget that women are not one-note and simply there as an extension of the male characters.

Also, just because there is a trend of girl hate does not mean that Anna wasn't a Mary Sue. She really, really was.
