Hey, at least both groups of fans can come together to make fun of acafen who talk about the discussion of masculinity and gender identity as represented by Cloud Strife and talk about the sociopolitical ramifications of Gurren Laggen.

...All right, those examples are obviously stretching it, but I don't necessarily think that there's anything inherently stupid about discussing deeper subjects / examining characters closer / whatever. The only times it becomes idiotic is when the people are applying things which are ridiculously wrong, looking for symbols that aren't there, etc.

... That said, I think "Masculinity and Cloud Strife" is a perfectly valid topic for discussion!

Well, there are certainly some issues with Cloud and masculinity, but you have to think of it from the perspective of the author, too - I don't think Square Enix was trying to make any type of point about masculinity when they made Cloud. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't still talk about it, just have to be wary of projecting things that aren't there.
