Are you 18 or new to fandom (or life)? Heterophobia exists, sweet pea. Just look at Supernatural fandom.

Oh fucking please. You cannot compare a term coined to deal with a level of loathing and fear that has lead to beatings, murders, etc (I'm sorry, do you want to go watch Milk now that it's out? I advise you do) because something is different from the normative and "wrong" ... to the dominant majority with all the entitlement and comfort in the world. Society is designed for het people down to little things. Internet memes? "What do you look for in the opposite sex"? Assumptions everywhere, and you say heterophobia exists because some people (straight people, mostly!!) don't like straight pairings in their fanfiction?

If you don't think that heterophobia is alive and well in fandom, you ARE in deep, deep denial.

I understand that slashers are very, very protective of their pairings, specifically because there is homophobia. Which is why I've always thought the TW situation is on of the most virulent. If the canon went in another direction everyone who's deeply invested in OMG!CANON!SLASH would feel betrayed.

Most fans do not identify as bi-fictional. They want one or the other, and if they are deprived of slash or faced with opposing viewpoints they lash out at the sexuality being presented.

I've been utterly guilty of bitchy heterophobia toward one Alison Cameron on House MD, of which I have repented and declared myself openly bi-fictional.


Maybe you are bi-fictional and completely innocent of any heterophobia and oppose all the het pairings you dislike on purely canon or esthetic grounds. Or maybe you're full of shit.
