It's funny, I don't even know how I stumbled across it, but my very first experience with fanfic was this specific, niche message board (that had an awful layout, but that's a whole different story) for one specific fandom. You had to warn for certain things like rape, domestic violence, blood/gore, etc. but M/M was never "warned for". The site was overwhelmingly slash fans but there were a few people who weren't into it, and the reasoning for no warning was because we all knew the characters, and the pairing was always listed in the subject, so you knew what you were getting. That was the norm for me until I branched out into other fandoms/sites later, so I found it weird when "warning" for slash was suddenly a thing.
