Huh, to each their own, I guess, because she's a very striking girl to me. She has a face I remember (which is unusual for me) and her huge eyes are super cute and pretty. What am I not seeing?

This. When I saw the first images for the new show, I even thought that the girl as she is now was way too pretty to be the "homely" teenage Anne of the first book.

Megan Follows wasn't ugly either, but she didn't have looks that stand out like the new actress.

Honestly, I think this is just one of those cases where different people find different traits good-looking. Amybeth has an extremely long, thin face, and I think some people just don't tend to find those proportions good-looking. Plus she has big front teeth and thin hair. I have all of those traits myself, and I was considered ugly as a kid, but grew into my looks, so I'm not saying these traits are inherently ugly or anything like that. But they're not what a lot of people think of when they think of "pretty" features.
