(Anonymous) 2020-08-07 04:03 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, it's two authors. I found an interview with one of them where it mentions them not writing together anymore (I don't know the story behind that, it didn't go into detail). Apparently she was responsible for one character, and the other writer was responsible for the other character, and people pointed out how similar her character was to one of the guys from Supernatural.
She claimed that she'd never even seen Supernatural until after they'd already written a couple books in the series, but I don't really buy her denial because it comes across like she got "caught" filing the serial numbers off and is trying to cover it up ("but I hadn't even seen the show!") and not really succeeding.
I mean, even if she'd never seen Supernatural and "her" character wasn't based off it, that doesn't explain that the other author's character just happens to share a lot of similarities to the other main Supernatural character, and the dynamic between them really only makes sense in that context.
And as dumb as it sounds, I can't get over the brown leather jacket. I feel like that's such a specific, weird thing to make part of a character's signature. I mean, if you want to write a "bad boy" character that wears a leather jacket, black seems way more common, but the brown leather jacket is such a ubiquitous thing on Supernatural (or at least it was in the earlier seasons, I haven't watched the last several). And there's actually a scene in the book where his jacket gets destroyed and he has to buy a new one, and gets a black one that he ends up giving away because it just doesn't feel right, it has to be brown.
IDK, I realize this is a super weird thing to have a conspiracy theory over, and I might sound crazy putting way too much thought into it, but the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that it was originally fanfic.

(Anonymous) 2020-08-07 04:30 am (UTC)(link)Honestly, I think you have good reason to think so, my guess is that is was an RP of some kind which would make it harder to track than just a fic. All your points check out to me, and really, it's not a conspiracy theory if it's true~ Amirite?

(Anonymous) 2020-08-07 04:48 am (UTC)(link)Ah, I hadn't even thought of an RP! I haven't done it myself, but from what I know, I feel like you're just playing around with characters and not really focusing on the quality of the writing, right? If so, that makes a ton of sense. I mean, I'm sure that if that's the case, they made at least some changes and didn't just copy and paste a chat log or whatever, but it would make sense out of all the weird repetition and meandering and odd grammar.
