For me, it's less that we're biased when we know the show, and more that we're stupid when we don't know the show. When we know the show, we have some idea of the specifics of what's going on. When we don't know the show, we have a tendency to interpret the secret as positively as possible and hone in on any possible interpretation of the secret that we might agree with, and not consider any different ways the secret might be phrased, or the different things that it could apply to. We think about the one time that something similar happened to us and it annoyed us, and we assume that the secret is about that exact thing.

And like. I'm sure it's more emotionally satisfying to just have people agree with you but I do think that people disagreeing with your opinion is kind of part of having an opinion. And there again, I'm sure this kind of reply isn't what you wanted but it is the way that I personally feel about it.

Yeah I mean... "gee people get mad when I get more specific about the issue and provide more context and info" might be telling you something OP

And I don't think that it's that people are somehow more judgey when you give them more relevant info

This was what I was going to say, but you already got it!

(Anonymous) 2020-08-08 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao yep came here to say this

context provided = people are mad!

no context = people like me!

not hard to figure out how OP might be spinning the narrative when there's no context to help us fill in the gaps.

"we have a tendency to interpret the secret as positively as possible"

... there's a small but very vocal minority here on FS who does the opposite of this, which is why I imagine OP isn't alone in making their secrets vague.
