(Anonymous) 2020-08-08 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)From what I've seen, a lot of people in fandom have seen this question and clarified that what they want people to do is stop support of official work. So don't buy books, don't buy official merch, etc. But support of the stuff that Rowling can possibly profit off is out. Note, there is going to be some people who think that we shouldn't be looking at the work or having fun with the work at all, but those people are taking the "it's kinda hard to still have as much fun with this as before we were more aware of the shittiness of the author" a bit far.
Also, there's the fact that Butch Hartman is I think more engaged with the fan side of things, therefore more likely to see stuff like this (this is just me theorizing, so I could be dead wrong). He's still making commissions and stuff (albeit traced from others). I imagine that making trans headcanons/works would make Rowling mad, but I don't think she'd outwardly explode over it (maybe she would. Who knows), and that's assuming she'd even find stuff.
Now, again, that doesn't mean there aren't people like you talked about. Separating art from artist is hard (and I'd argue impossible in a true sense since we unconsciously put certain things in our works; That doesn't mean you can't still have fun, but it does mean that there are going to be things in that work that were influenced by the author's prejudices). But the people in these fandoms aren't really the same people.
