You can turn the "in your orbit" feature off if you go to settings and uncheck a box.

Not OP but mine is off and I'm still getting stuff on my dash that I don't care to see from blogs I don't follow.

"in your orbit" is different from them spamming you to try and make you follow something else. They don't let you turn that off. Alas.
