Same. So many people - SO MANY MY GOD - function at a barely adequate reading level. I mean, they can read... mostly. They understand basic sentence structure and have a basic vocabulary that is adequate for conversational English. But you go beyond that and all bets are off!

And I'm not talking about non-native English speakers. I mean people who grew up with English as their first and often ONLY language.

This. Theres a couple of "oh, you're just SOOOOOO not like other girls, aren't you" assholes in here too, and a couple of "oh you like X pairing, you're a racist/abuse supporter/transphobe" dipshits. I got called transphobic and then they disappeared when I asked what about my secret was transphobic. Seriously, if you're just here to be a willfully obtuse asshole troll, fuck you.

Yeah, I've been on this site since looong before it moved to Dreamwidth, and how negatively my secrets are consistently received has made me more or less stop making them. I have one in the next batch after a long break. And it doesn't even have to be a majority, if I get 4 comments and three are good and one is misinterpreting the entire secret and then attacking me, the experience puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I like the drama on this site. I also like that this site is mostly anon because I would like it a lot less if people received death threats, got doxxed, or any other bullshit things that happen on twitter/reddit/facebook. I don't think a lot of people would agree with me, but I find it a safe space for watching drama because besides for hurt feelings, no one will actually get hurt.

Same anon: Also, wanted to add that I don't really think the intensity of the drama and the wank has changed over the years, just the flavor. People have always had poor reading comprehension or desire to start fights and clutch pearls. I think we now just have a backdrop of everywhere else on the internet being political and extremely polarizing.

I remember in 2012 when FS had a giant knock down, drag out fight over a pretty mild secret about masked huskies. It went from fighting about dog stereotypes to human racism. It's still one of my favorite dramas ever.

The huskies wank is still my all time favourite fandom wank. There was also some classist/racist wank in GC within a few days of the husky secret that was pretty OTT and one of the long time named users ended up leaving because of it.
