Because people don't read every fic in the exchange to find out if it's bad, but, as others have said, people can tell bad art at a first glace. Also, most humans instinctively notice when there's something off about the anatomy in a picture, but ESL fans might have trouble telling a badly written fanfic from a well-written one.

Yes, I know this. What I'm saying is that the first impression on an art work is often the most harshest. A person can spend weeks, and/or months on their artwork, but their skill level at the time will be the only thing people will see. That is what they will judge.

Fic is different since it ties into storylines, and the characters as they see fit. Most of them hamhashed from a thousand different tropes. So long as the fic exists in the written language and partially covers some sort of grammatical background, it can be considered one of the better works. As it is only the impressions that written authors work upon. Something someone else can imagine.

Bad fic is on a different level from bad art, since you can rewrite what your reading to your own benefit, but you can't unsee a still image thats been created.

Life isn't fair. People can't turn off their art appreciation skills. Nobody in this thread advocates saying anything other than praise to bad art, but people are entitled to find a piece of art ugly, no matter how much time the artist spent on it.

True, I still feel bad about it though.

The person you're arguing with has a chip in their shoulder so big it's making them combative and irrational, anon. IMO it's not worth arguing with them about this. You'll continue to be obviously right, and they'll continue to be combative and irrational.
