Honestly, I think if you're just shooting the shit with your friends (IRL, or in a fairly private forum online), it doesn't really matter. People gossip with their friends/family. People speculate about all kinds of personal stuff that would be really rude to speculate on in a more public setting.

When it comes to doing it publicly (in magazines or gossip websites and such), the thing is that there isn't really a het version of it. If a celeb has never stated their sexuality, it's really uncommon for people to talk about the possibility they might be straight, as though that's salacious in some way. And if a celeb is out as gay or bi, it's really uncommon for people to gossip about how "I don't know, are they telling the truth, though? They just always seem kind of...straight."

So like, speculating on a celeb's sexuality is kind of trespassing on their personal narrative, in a way that only LGBT people are likely to experience.
