My user name is two geeky Esca references in one- Hitomi of course referring to the character, and tenshi being the Japanese word for "angel" (since wings are a common theme in the show).

Damn, 7? I've had the same user name ever since I started my LJ back in 2001. Thought about changing it a few times, but figure it would only confuse my friends since they're used to this one.

YES! I've had this one account since May 2004. I got my first rename token mid September in uhhh 2006 and I kept that name for 7 months. I changed my name to psychoticsounds but kept it for 25 days because I kept spelling it wrong :/. I picked out my next username not long after I got this back in July, but I'm making myself wait. I do think this is one of my best names, too so that is more reason to wait.

Although I have been defriended through their confusion before, I don't care too much about confusing people. Last time I didn't even make an announcement about it ahah.

Personally, I like the way it ended.

I'm of the belief that I think it's selfish to go off and do things on your own without closing ties... unless if your life really, really sucks and you need to escape for your own well-being... however, that's not the case here with Hitomi.

I would have been severely disappointed if she stayed behind. She had a good life, had people who cared for her, who worried about her, and would have always been left in the limbo of "what the hell happened?" That's cruelty and torture to leave people like that without resolution.

With Van and everyone else, she at least had closure. And no matter which path she chose she would have been able to have a content, happy life (she never appeared anguished over the decision... she seemed calm and accepting, realizing that no matter the distance she'd always love him). In the end, I thought she made the best decision.

Also, for as mature as the anime was, that ending would have been an immature copout. Hitomi wasn't selfish like that. She had family she left behind. She was still young and had a long life ahead of her. I would have lost respect for Sunrise Studios if she hadn't returned.

That doesn't mean I'm not open to fanfiction of her returning (I've read several to satisfy those shipper cravings). At least in those situations there can be more closure.

But, overall, I loved the ending.

Good points. It would have been rather terrible to leave her family and friends wondering just what the hell happened. I like to think that maybe she returned to Gaea one day when she was a bit older and ready to plot her own course in life.
